If you didn't know, today is Canada Day, a national holiday in Canada.
On July 1st, 1867, the Constitution act created Canada as we know and love it today.
The next year, on June 20th, 1868, Governor General Lord Monck signed a proclamation that requested all of Her Majesty's subjects in Canada to celebrate July 1st as "the anniversary of Confederation", later called Dominion Day.
In 1879, a federal law made Dominion Day an official holiday.
On October 27th, 1982, Dominion Day became Canada Day.
Every Canada Day we celebrate freedom and love of our wonderful country.
But it is not often that the focus of celebrations turns to our God, who is the Provider of everything we are celebrating.

But it is not often that the focus of celebrations turns to our God, who is the Provider of everything we are celebrating.
"Oh Canada" was named the national anthem in 1980, but how often is it that we read or sing all four verses?
The fourth verse reads:
Ruler supreme, who hearest humble prayer,
Hold our dominion within thy loving care;
Help us to find, oh God, in Thee,
A lasting, rich reward,
As waiting for the Better Day,
We ever stand on guard.
God keep our land glorious and free!
Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
Why is this verse never talked about, never read, never sung?
It is because so many try to deny the involvement of God in anything, and the formation of our country is not an exception.
It is because so many try to deny the involvement of God in anything, and the formation of our country is not an exception.
But even if you don't care to read all the verses, one of the stanzas in the first verse reads:
God keep our land glorious and free!
I hope to talk more about this history in posts to come, but I will leave you with the challenge to ponder this.
If God did not intervene, provide, and allow for our country to become the glorious and free land we live in today, how did it come to be?
