Today we remember and honour those Canadians who fought in the First World War, the Second World War, and the Korean war.
I had the great privilege today of going to our city's Remembrance Day service. We were able to have a parade again, after being without for the last two years.
It was striking to me how the men and women who spoke were not afraid to speak about God, as it seems has been happening more and more often of late.
The Reverend giving the address reminded us how these men and women sacrificed their lives for our freedom, and pointed us toward Jesus, who made the final sacrifice for our sins.
I was also impressed with the prayers, which, instead of praying to the "Creator" or "Unknown God" as has been done in the past, instead prayed to the "Almighty God, our Father".
I've always been interested in reading about the wars, and hearing many speak today, and seeing the veterans and those in the army now made me so thankful. Without them, we wouldn't be free today.
So as you go about your day today, whatever you may be doing, I encourage you to think about those who served for you, those who gave you your freedom. Pray for them, thank them, honour them, remember them.
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.
